We aren’t perfect,
too many cold nights.
mozzies and humidity,
I suspect.
We say “Sorry!”
far too often IMHO,
though unlike our neighbours,
when we say it, we mean it!
We don’t treat our First Nations
with the ‘Do Unto Others…’ rule,
and we did have a head tax,
on Chinese workers,
and imprisoned Japanese folks,
during WW2.
But we did invent insulin,
poutine and beaver tails,
velcro and zippers,
and where would our neighbours
be without ‘CanadArm’?
We do have a king,
but he is harmless,
and eco-friendly,
so we will keep him,
and not snatch people off streets,
with Hummers and face masks,
and firearms are for hunting,
animals with a license,
not people without.
I won’t wave my flag today,
no fireworks cuz of Frieda,
no guzzling beer or BBQ,
just watch the concerts
on CBC with elbows up,
and think of the people
in places they don’t celebrate,
or live in fear,
and realize warts and all,
I live in the best country,
in the world – period…
Sorry…
