Delicioius Surrender - a poem about growing up.

Delicious surrender
like morphine – sweet and soft
numb flowing in gentle rivers
to push away the pain of thought
like the ratty Winnie the Pooh
they gave you at six
to chase the bogeyman
you held on tight
til Michelle in the ninth grade
threw him from a passing car
cartwheeling over the median
into the oncoming traffic
you laughed and waved goodbye
hiding the tear in your eye
behind the liner notes
on a Bon Jovi CD
snapping your gum
in time to the song
amazed how delicious
boredom and ennui can be
like morphine
sweet and soft…
