Give me a mouse, a decent sized monitor and I can work magic moving pixels around the screen.
Give me a sketchpad, a pencil and an hour and immediately I start to sweat. A good sweat, mind you, knowing that I am pushing my envelope, just a little, maybe even learning a new skill.
Right now I am trying to master the art of the Aquarelle, those maddening pencils that turn into any colour except the one you want at the first touch of a paint brush. My wife gave me a beautiful set from Deserres a couple of Xmases ago and my parsimonious nature says ‘Dammit Mark you ARE going to learned these things – even if it drives you nucking futz!’
My mastery of Aquarelles is not linear, mostly due to my frustration putting them away to collect dust for a couple months until my Art-BP drops back into triple digits.
Sooo… this morning, being a ‘no-Boxing’ Sunday, I grabbed the Aquarelles and had a go at a sketch I played with last week. Of course they looked great at the scribbling and shading stage, but *poof* once again the first touch of the brush and things started to get wacky.
Eventually I had a semblance of my original vision so I turned to a new 0.5mm stick pen, a brand I have trusted for years and guess what? I got the ONLY gloppy pen from that brand in like 5 years!! Aaargh…
There is a madness to art… maybe next week I will see if I can take it to the next level…
Cheers (from the rubber room)!
Mark
