The silence of snow - a poem

The silence of snow
each decibel cocooned between the flakes
falling gently from a deep blue sky.

Trees mantled in lace like debutantes
gnarled bark hidden from their suitors
Waiting for the prom that Spring will bring

There is a peace when breathing frosts
before my face and fingers tingle
like angels dancing two-step.

Ahead a russet tail swishes sideways
head down amongst the roots
nose exploring with a happy grin.

Quietly as if in awe
she stops and listens
for rabbits tread or squirrels swish

Beyond the silence of snow…
