Anyone who has spent time in the military knows it is one of the most dangerous jobs you can imagine.
We have all lost friends, and in some cases, family; often in an accident or action that was far outside what you would come to expect in this environment. And we all know families, who live with the danger every single day!
I have trained at Camp Wainwright, and worked on staff. It is a place beyond, rolling hills far from communities that might be affected by any collateral damage. Here Canada hosts troops from all over NATO and the Commonwealth ‘practicing’ for an eventuality none of us ever hopes happen.
Details are sparse about what happened yesterday at Wainwright. Over the next few days and weeks the details will fill in. What we do know is that 100 kmh winds would definitely not be in the Ops Order! Another Mother Nature gotcha we can only attempt to manage.
For now, know that soldiers everywhere, active and retired, have a tear in their heart for our country’s finest killed or injured yesterday. And hugs to their family and friends enduring the most unimaginable horror.
