Ok, so I am a bit of a ‘weathernut’, 15 years in operational meteorology with Environment Canada will do that to you…
I have two weather stations in my backyard, one my wife and son gave me for Xmas about 10 years ago that has been through the ‘wars’ for sure, the cupwheel taking the brunt of the storm so that now it is merely a temperature, humidity and pressure sensor duct taped to the edge of the awning outside my back door. It still works just fine for that and the display sits on my desk between my work monitors . The problem with it has always been that it only displays on the console. In order to capture / use the data I would need a Nano board, 433 mhz receiver card and Raspberry Pi on a computer someplace, not to mention having to decode the data as it streams from the weather unit. A bit of a pain for sure!
Last Xmas my wife bought me a new weather station, one that transmits to the console AND uploads the data to weathercloud and wunderground. Booyah! This one has all the bells and whistles and now proudly sits in the middle of my backyard on a 12 foot mast!
Sooo, it has only taken me a year to get this puppy set up on weathercloud, life being what it is. Also had some issues with the login etc. on weathercloud on an ongoing basis. I finally sat down and spent the time last night to create a whole new account and guess what? IT WORKS!
So now you can see the weather in my backyard every 10 minutes on the weathercloud website at the following link:
Ottawa-Shillington Weather (aka ws001)
The ‘weatherbug’ and QR Code are also on the footer of every page here which you can click to reach the current weather for me. 🙂
Next up… connecting to wunderground – booyah!
**UPDATE**
I connected to wunderground, took a bit of finagling, and I have put up a weather page for the Ottawa and Campbell River actuals and forecast (CR = hometown).
