From Browsers to Trousers

Two new bags and a wee project in the middle - no browser needed for instructions!

My ‘geek-life’ involves 2 laptops, a linux box and 3 very large monitors. Needless to say ‘focus’ is the keyword from 8:30am (usually anytime after 7am) til about 5pm (with the odd evening or overnight session). My work can get stressful at times, not the geekstuff as much as the corporate politics, but that is a whole other story.

To regain my sanity I like to have hobbies that do not relate to computers! I am not a big ‘watch TV’ guy, unless it is an old movie or a Brit crime drama (Shetland rules!). And I am a ‘child of the 60’s’, one of those people who always think ‘something’ is too good to throw away.

This week it was going through my ‘collection’ of denim discards, the jeans my wife won’t let me out of the house in etc. I have also been in need of a simple bag I can put my sketch pad and notebook in rather than tossing them in a backpack never to be found again. And it just so happened that I spied two lower leg pieces not doubt saved after my kneeless jeans became cutoffs.

The bag on the right is the basic model, messenger style and a perfect size for my sketchpad. The one on the left was a bit more adventurous, an over the shoulder bag with a front pocket that came to mind about 4am this morning (yes I don’t sleep much…). This one will take my sketchbook and the front pocket is a great size for my cell phone. Done and done.

In the middle is another wee project. This time I took two backpockets, sewed them back to back with a middle pocket in between (with velcro closure, my I am going upscale!). It will slide nicely into the bag on the left for my wallet and keys.

There another pair of trouser legs saved from the dustbin! And best of all… I didn’t need a Youtube video to show me how…

Peace and Happy Long Weekend Canada!
Mark
