is this frustrating or what?

How do I love thee Microsoft?

Less and less every day! As you may have noticed I have taken down the Geekstuff / Freebies, for the time being.

Originally I was compiling the exe’s with Pyinstaller, but as anyone who codes will tell you, Pyinstaller gives you two options: a. spend half your life editing the spec file to eliminate unneeded modules or b. live with apps that are seriously bloated!

Enter Nuitka, a slick python compiler that uses the modules needed only and reduces the exe size by at least half. All good there so I recompiled all my scripts with Nuitka and uploaded them. Then I decided to redo the apps with ttkbootstrap, mostly for aesthetics. All good still, Nuitka was happy…

Somewhere along the line Microsoft and Avast must have put their heads together. All of a sudden the python scripts ran but the exe’s were toast. A bit of Googling revealed the Win11 update had broken Nuitka. Solution: reinstall Nuitka. I reinstalled.

First time out of the gate the exe ran on the new compile. Second time out, nadas… Huh?

It appears NOW that even in an exclusion folder Avast is blocking Nuitka-compiled exes! AAAAAARGH!!!

So since I cannot confirm the exes are going to work consistently, I can’t in good faith offer them up. Back into the lab I go to see if I can find a consistent fix.

I wonder if Nuitka can compile Win exes under Linux?

Will update when I have news…
