Simple and flexible, Apercu, son of PYng...

If you know me IRL, you know I have this thing about ‘KISS’. I hate fussy, frilly and generally annoying things.

Truth be known (am I being sexist? – I hope not!) if given the ‘choice’ between a runway model all made up in a $5000 Versace original and a girl with minimal makeup, in jeans and tee shirt ready for whatever (or just hanging out), I will pick the girl in jeans every time.

Same with apps, I hate apps that try to do everything you would ever have imagined, plus some features that are just plain glitzy! It’s why I write these simple apps – they do what they are supposed to and just that, no more.

One of the things I have found coding using the KISS principle is that my apps tend to be quite flexible in purpose. A decent example is above. I started off building PYng as a way to keep track of my billable hours (and someday automate the dreaded Tempo process!). So far it does just that, not glitzy, no extraneous junk.

Today I was thinking about companion software for PYWrite and go to thinking wouldn’t it be cool to have a regular diary / journal?

Eureka! A few modifications on PYng and out pops Apercu (Insight en francais) – a simple diary / journal. Most of the writers I know carry around a notebook and pencil. Why not just have it on your laptop?

Now to go write about today… Dear Diary…

Cheers,
Mark

(I think it is time to take a break from coding – twitch twitch)
