So I decided to convert my old Teeswater.ca sqldump into something(s) I could use on this blog. Now Teeswater.ca was my long defunct online newspaper back when I was living deep in the heart of Bruce County. When I shut down the site I grabbed the sqldump and it has long languished on my external drive.
(the boring details follow so TLDR at your pleasure) Basically my python script converted the sqldump to individual markdown files of the posts and pages. Worked slick and within a few minutes I was reading stories from 15 years ago in my text editor. (boring bits end here)
In my markdown travels I discovered an article I had written based on a book of 365 recipes I found on gutenberg.org, one per day, from 1908! They were pretty cool recipes with things like ‘boil two sheep heads’ etc. that I am certain GenZ’s will find revolting… lol.
Well the long and short of it is my geek radar went off, so I built a WP plugin to pop the recipes into the footer of my pages, one per day, based on what day of the year you happen to wander over to my place on the web. The plugin is active now so cmon over regularly for yummy new (old?) recipes. 🙂
Oh, and I added a link to Hey Cafe, a 1000% Canadian social media site I highly recommend!
Cheers,
Mark
