I once met Dolly Parton
with her wigs strewn on a chair,
bare toes wiggling in the sunlight
from the blue jeans with a tear.
But the presence it was golden
shining out onto the world
with positivity and wisdom,
full belief in ‘US’ unfurled.
Kindness with no Vegas glitter,
just homespun chats like you and me,
lots of laughs and potty sayings,
taking time to let it be.
Then the alarm went off beside me,
shattered peace before its’ time,
I stumbled to the kitchen,
poured the coffee with a sigh.
