“We’ll do it all – Everything – On our own”

A single note
in a crowded market
between the awnings,
bajjis, coffee beans
and hand-spun wool
a single seagull
in my minds’ ear
mid-sentence halt
sunglasses hiding pain
leaking from the corners.
lying flat on the sand
watching elephants
rabbits and snoopies
cavorting to a vapour zoo
beneath an azure big top
and the smell of salt
so many laughs
so many plans
so many tomorrows
so many years
“Let’s waste time – Chasin’ cars”
and broken dreams…
