Ahh the joys of WinBlows11 – doing everything the Microsoft way (and sharing to the world whether you like it or not!).
For a while this year I was devving new apps on Win11, mostly because it was easy to compile small, neat, portable exes with Nuitka, and my primary machine was the Win11 laptop. But over time, as my anti-virus constantly evolved and updated itself, it became more and more tempermental about Nuitka compilations, until at the end even my SpyGlass app was getting quarantined as soon as I started it! PyWrite – gone, Pysano – gone, basically all my apps toasted to the quarantine bin. Sure I could still run in python but who wants to do that when you have a perfectly functional exe?
I finally pulled down my downloads page and any of the apps on it to give away, simply because I don’t need the hassle of angry people emailing me cuz their app got busted by AVG or Avast or whatever. The alternative for me was to spend the $250 per year on a pro Nuitka license but really where is the CBA on that for freebie apps?

Long story short I ended up copying my exes over to this Linux box (Mint 22.2 – Cinnamon) and with a quick install of Wine was up and running! Screenshot is my desktop with Wine running my MaVie journal app and PURL my URL / link manager. Too simple! At the top you can see I have two instances of SpyGlass running – one for my main apps and one for the utilities I have built – TFE again!
My newest app – Deo-Mastodon, a Mastodon client, will probably never see the light of Windows11 and I am thinking over the Xmas holidays Ms. Windows11 will become Ms. LinuxMint…
And people wonder why I am Pro-Linux and Anti-Virus!
Cheers,
Mark
