Sunset fades into darkness
edged by violet and green,
fuzzed at the horizon
in a wisp of fog
waiting to descend
and drop prisms of water
on the morning leaves
draped on the sumac
that rings my garden.
Family fades to distance
edged by glints of sunlight,
fuzzed by adventures call
in a line of asphalt
waiting to be driven
between McDonalds french fries
and toll booth people smiling
as you toss the token
clinking in the bin.
Frieda fades to tired,
carrots and cookies
passports to dreamland
a smile facing out
in case a cookies passes
tween the bars that border
slumber and freedom
the cool breezing fan
and Daddy’s snuggles.
