Each raindrop falls
a miniature explosion
in the dust
shooting tiny parcels
of scent skyward
in the breeze
to hint a promise
of hope beneath
the blackened hills
beyond the wildfire.

(thinking of my home province thirsting for rain in a terrible fire season)

Petrichor – the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. Each raindrop seems to burst forth a million scents trapped in the dusty soil.
